Starting off strong with metal riffs and double bass action, I thought this might be a good melodic metal band. Having “Counterparts” in their EP title also made me wonder if they are Rush fans (hope springs eternal). Sadly, I was disappointed when the cheesy emo vocals kicked in and the band started wussing out in a “we-take-ourselves-way-too-seriously” way. The rest of the song – and album – melted harmlessly into mall-punk riffing and saccharin pop hooks.

Still, I thought they might be redeemable given their solid musicianship, but the piano ballad opening the second tune squashed those hopes.

I can’t believe bands are still playing this crap. I suppose – and it’s frightening to realize – that there is a whole generation of kids who grew up listening to this garbage. This may be all they know. Depressing.

Bottom Line: The wussy emo train keeps chugging along. Choo-choo!
