Hmm, it’s been awhile since I heard an actual punk release. I thought punk rock was wiped out by an asteroid or something.
The Virgins at first sounded sloppy and abrasive, but they quickly won me over with catchy choruses, a leaning toward street punk over punkcore, and some flashy guitar solos. The vocals have a colicky, crusty edge, but are tempered by midtempo melody lines and background chantalongs.
The drumming needs to be reigned in and work a bit tighter with the band. I’d also recommend a lozenge for the singer. But then again – and I have to keep reminding myself since it’s been so long – this is punk rock.
