While ska punk is a welcome anomaly these days, sounding like a typical high school skapunk band from the 90s won’t exactly usher in the fourth wave.

The Pilfers are playing a rare show at the Knitting Factory on April 23rd, 2010. For some people that don’t know, the Knitting Factory moved to Brooklyn so don’t show up at the old venue!

Since JR announced that the band is playing a reunion show, I’d figured I’d post their best song called “Jolene.” It’s about their van dying, and it’s a pretty funny video too. Check it out rudeboys and rudegirls:

Connecticut ska band Spring Heeled Jack haven’t played together since 2002, when they played a Dave Karcich’s memorial show which raised $8,000 for a fund in his name. Various members of the band are/were in other bands but looks like SHJ will be back for some shows in some capacity. Jr, Sax player of Less Than Jake and SHJ, confirms that the band are going to do a proper reunion show which won’t be rushed this time. Don’t know what the details are yet but I’m sure JR will post them on his blog or twitter feed sooner or later.

Reel Big Fish had a bang-up 2009 with not ONE, but TWO releases: the studio album, Fame, Fortune, and Fornication and the Live! In Concert! DVD, as well as a U.S. tour with Two-Tone legends The English Beat. I tend to prefer a ska punk that approximates a more skanky rhythm (think Citizen Fish), but the Have Nots do the fast up-picking thing very well and without sounding like it’s a tacked-on novelty.

You’d think that almost 15 months of near-nonstop touring would deserve a long break, but such is not the case for ska/punk/pop pioneers LESS THAN JAKE who are hitting the road this November and December in support of their latest album GNV FLA on their own label Sleep It Off.

After almost five years of practically nonstop touring, ska/punk/pop veterans Streetlight Manifesto are finally planning on taking a break, but not before hitting the road ONE last time. Ready to kick off The Last Tour For A While Tour, they will be planning on adding a few surprises for these dates (which the band has not revealed yet, but will not be unlike their recent back-to-back full album shows in NYC). “We’ve dedicated ourselves over the last half decade to touring relentlessly and thereby put our ‘real’ lives on hold,” explains Tomas Kalnoky (vocals, guitar). “That changes after our upcoming Northeast America/Canada tour, which runs from September 17 (this week!) until our hometown show at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ on October 4th.”
