Madonna’s Filth & Wisdom Starring Eugene Hutz To Debut At The Berlin Film Festival Hutz Inspiration For Gucci Fall Collection

LOS ANGELES, JANUARY 29, 2008 – Internationally acclaimed Gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello return to North America in March for the “Forces of Victory Tour 2008.” It has also been announced that Gogol Bordello will play Coachella for the second year in a row on April 27. In addition, front man Eugene Hutz will attend the worldwide premiere of Madonna’s directorial debut “Filth & Wisdom” at the Berlin Film Festival February 13. Hutz is also the inspiration behind Gucci designer Frida Giannini’s Fall 08/09 collection.

Gogol Bordello who star in “Filth & Wisdom,” also write a handful of songs for the soundtrack. Eugene, who stars in the lead role, and is the inspiration for the movie. However, this is not the first time the duo has worked together. This past summer at Live Earth in London, Eugene and Sergey performed a Romanesque version of “La Isla Bonita” that combined Gogol Bordello’s gypsy-stomper “Lela Pala Tute” with Madonna singing in Romanes. The performance is now available on DVD.

Hutz became the center of attention in the fashion world this year when Gucci designer Frida Giannini unveiled the men’s Fall 08/09 collection during Milan’s Fashion Week. Gucci’s collection is reminiscent of gypsy folklore juxtaposed with rock and avant-garde antiques as branded by Gogol Bordello . From a recent Associated Press story on the collection, Giannini “‘fell in love’ with Eugene Hutz and his flamboyant gypsy style.”

Gogol Bordello’s 2007 release SUPER TARANTA!, their most prolific album to date has earned them glowing praise from the press worldwide. Entertainment Weekly calls the album “Awesomely powerful,” while music critic Robert Christgau says “it’s the best rock album of the decade.” Meanwhile, Punkbands.com says Super Taranta! stands as a testament to the great (and unique) songwriting of the band, which is better than ever,” and Big Cheese claims that “Gogol Bordello have made the most vital album of the year.” SUPER TARANTA! also earned a Top 20 spot at #14 on Rolling Stone’s “Top 50 Albums of the Year” chart and the track “Ultimate” was #82 on Rolling Stone’s “Top 100 Songs of the Year” chart.
