Irreverent, Bay Area-bred rock & roll whiz kids The Matches will hit the road in support of their acclaimed, sophomore album Decomposer on April 19th in San Diego. In advance of its coveted slot on the Hurley Stage at this summer’s 2007 Warped Tour, the Oakland foursome brings its contagious sonic attack to venues across the fruited plain this spring with a four-week run that wraps in Madison, Wisconsin on May 12th.

Touted as “some of the most creative and boundary-pushing musicians I have ever worked with,” by +44’s Mark Hoppus, who shared production duties with the likes of Rancid’s Tim Armstrong, Goldfinger’s John Feldman, 311’s Nick Hexum and Epitaph founder Brett Gurewitz on its heralded new disc Decomposer.

Named “an album capable of sneaking under the skin of enough skeptics to make the band rock stars” by Alternative Press, while All Music Guide called the Oakland foursome’s multiple-producer philosophy “a particularly distinctive and creative album to be proud of.”

A recent Big Cheese feature echoes that sentiment: “Pushing the boundaries, The Matches have made the hardest art of their careers. And it may well have twisted their heads as well as our ears.” Meanwhile, Australia’s Rave did just that, singing the praises of The Matches gig two weeks back at the Gold Coast’s Coolangatta Hotel:

“The theatrically-inclined Californians are polite enough to ask if we want to shake our ass or run around in a circle'” it wrote. “Harris’ completely mental behaviour reassures those who dragged their asses down here tonight that they’re getting the punk rock show they deserve. The folks at Epitaph never get it wrong.”
