I never heard of singer/songwriter Aaron English before but decided to give him a listen anyway. I mean, this did come out a year ago but it’s probably been sitting in my pile since February of last year. When I first put on “The Marriage of the Sun and the Moon,” I just didn’t know what to expect. But I kept listening to the album and liked what I heard. Aaron English is like a combination of REM, Peter Gabriel, New Model Army and The Police.

Speaking of the Police, Aaron does a unique cover of the Police’s “Message in a Bottle.” Besides folk and classic rock, Aaron also has Middle Eastern & South American elements included in his music as well. I liked English’s upbeat tracks (“Thin Ice,” “Anywhere-End Up Street”) more than the slower ones but I’m like that with most bands. This was a surprise!

Bottom Line: This is a year old album but that doesn’t mean you should overlook it now.
Notable Tracks: Thin Ice, Like Smoke, Anywhere-End Up Street, Message in a Bottle
