Interesting singer/songwriter stuff from Toronto. Very 60s folky songwriting, but there are moments of off-kilter instrumentation and cathartic, punk spirit.
The vocals have decent range – sometimes in a low register, but often soaring in an emotionally raw way and loud in the mix – reminiscent of early Dylan when he was particularly yarling. Lyrics are particularly strong and intelligent.
Overly long tunes are made more palatable with random instruments (I think I heard everything from a theremin to a saw), but more engaging melodies would have been more effective.
Bottom Line: Whip-smart lyrics are the high point.
