If screaming, aggressive, can’t understand a damn word being said, hardcore punk rock is your flavor than you’ll most likely enjoy this album. The young lads from Chaz H. Scally exhibit a pounding, dirty sound that at times enters the same arena as Leftover Crack, Choking Victim and even Operation Ivy. I may be a little generous with my comparison to OpIvy…no I AM being generous but the fast paced distorted ska riffs are present and accounted for and the slick leads overtop are reminiscent of the pre-Rancid punk purveyors.

In my formative years, I would have eaten this record up and enjoyed it in its entirety. But alas, I am aging and my musical palette has changed. Attack In Progress’ has a lot of the elements that made the aforementioned bands so enjoyable but nowadays I find the screaming wails of Chaz H. Scally to be more headache inducing than anything else. I can appreciate the raw energy of this album but the constant assault on my tender aging ears is more than I can bear. Lead singer/screamer Ged captures all the energy of a live performance and lays it down with conviction. The band’s bombardment is full throttle and does not relinquish until the bitter end. With that being said, it should also be noted that the musicianship is top notch. The bass line in Judo Hobo’ is excellent and fills the gaps between the ska induced guitar riffs and relentless drum work.

It is evident that there wasn’t a whole lot of money or time spent on production but that serves the album well in the end. A release such as this is best left raw and untampered. Although I can’t say that this is one of my favorite recent releases, I can say that I appreciate what Chaz H. Scally has done and fans of this genre will most certainly take a liking to these young fellers.

Bottom Line: A sonic assault with ska tinged undertones that will sit you on your ass or give you a raging headache.
