Dirty Revolution is the latest UK-based ska act to release an album on Do the Dog Records. For those of you that live in a cave, Do the Dog Records is the premier ska label in the UK, run by Kevin Flowerdew. Dirty Revolution is a female-fronted ska band from Cardiff and their mini-album “It’s Gonna Get Dirty” consists of 5 tracks. I wish there was more tracks though!
If you’re trying to get an idea on what Dirty Revolution sounds like, just imagine Kirsty MacColl playing with the Specials. The singer seriously sounds like MacColl to me, it’s quite frightening how close her singing style is to hers. The rest of the band does a good job as well, but I think the real talent is the vocals of Reb Sutton. I’m curious to hear how this band sound live, and whether they are just as good as they are on this album. Give Dirty Revolution a listen on their www.myspace.com/dirtyrevolution MySpace page and see if you like them. I liked this album and think this band will get better and better with each release.
Bottom Line: A good ska album from this Cardiff band
Notable Tracks: Dirty Revolution, Failure To Communicate
