Drewvis is the latest UK ska act to release an album on Do The Dog. Drewvis is a one man band that plays acoustic ska in the same vein as Chris Murray. He gets help from Pablo Mason on bass though. Drewvis isn’t going for that lo-fi, “sounds like it was recorded in a bathtub” sound like Chris Murray does though.
“For The Win” contains 7 songs and I really like this album. I can see Drewvis playing this type of music at the pubs and being a good opener for ska shows. I’m not sure if anyone in England will get this, but Drewvis actually sounds a little bit like Jason Castro from American Idol. Not sure if that’s an insult or not, but it’s not meant to be. This was a good album and I enjoyed listening to it. I’ll probably put this on after a long day from work and just relax to the sounds of Drewvis.
Bottom Line: A really good acoustic ska album!
Notable Tracks: Resolution, Ten Pin Bowling, You’re Gonna Get There
