Album Reviews | Jul 30th, 2010

Genre: Reggae
Record Label: VP Music Group

Ernie Smith, reggae singer largely known for his work in the 60’s and 70’s, and has recorded most of his work with Federal Records brings a “Best of” record. VP celebrates Smith’s best with a fine collection ranging from the 60’s to 80’s. Smith’s deep Baritone voice made him a stand out in Jamaica, and provided a lot of passion and soul in his voice. 17 excellent tracks that any classic reggae fan would own can be yours to own as well!

Ernie Smith had several chart toppers’s in Jamaica including “Bend Down,” “Ride On Sammy,” and “Pitta Patta.” With Ernie’s cool cat style, I almost got the vibe it was a Jamaica Neil Diamond. Maybe I’m crazy for thinking that, but I can see the comparison in some ways. Throughout Ernie’s career, as in most artists there are high’s and low’s. Going through the success of many albums and hits were some of the highs and dealing with the struggle of drugs and alcohol problems. Ernie Smith is still recording and this is just one more way to showcase what a great talent he is.

Bottom Line: A great look back at one of Jamaica’s finest singers.
Notable Tracks: Pitta Patta, I Can’t Take It, Sunday Morning Coming Down, Nice Time
