The debut album of Great Lakes Myth Society is a weird mix of indie rock, folk and celtic music. It’s a very eclectic mix if you ask me. I was expecting something completely different to be quite honest. With a name like Great Lakes Myth Society, you think they would play straight up emo. The first track is decent but I really like the second song “Across the Bridge.” The strings in their music really adds some depth to their music and for me, makes it more enjoyable to listen. The band is sort of a cross between the Waterboys, Low & Sweet Orchestra and Camper Van Beethoven. If you think that sounds like something you would listen to; listen to a few songs online somewhere and see if you like these guys. I thought they were pretty good, especially for a debut album!

Bottom Line: Very good debut album from this folkish indie rock band.
Notable Tracks: “Red Jacket Miners” “Across the Bridge” “Big Jim Hawkins”
