Self-proclaimed avant-garde punk with jazz influences, but I think that’s reaching a bit. The Illustrated really play structured post-punk with shitty alternarock vocals.
They throw in some other stuff to beef up their avant-garde cred, like instrumentals that sound like the score to the world’s worst student art film, and they genre hop a little to blues and metal, but mostly they sound like a very self-conscious 90s garage band trying to sound weird.
