Who the hell is Moneybrother? I don’t know; this is the first time I’m hearing this. The band is fronted by Anders Wendin, former member of the Swedish punk band Monster and this is the first US release by Moneybrother.

I had no idea what this album was going to sound like, and wasn’t expecting this sound at all. The first song & title track, “They’re Building Walls Around Us” sounds like a danceable Style Council song, mixed in with disco, soul, and rock.. Anders Wendin sounds like a cross between Joe Strummer and Elvis Costello, but only in a Swedish accent! That sounds strange but once you listen to this EP, you’ll know what I’m talking about. I thought that comparison would be a good example on only one song, but as I listen to this whole CD; that comparison seems very justifiable. Towards the end of the EP, there are some slower songs but they sound just as good as the danceable first two tracks. Moneybrother has a unique mix of styles and instruments into their music. You might hear some reggae riffs, maybe some soul, perhaps a little bit rock, even some disco; there’s something for everyone on “They’re Building Walls Around Us.” I’m very surprised I like this album but then again, I love soul, reggae, punk, rock and Joe Strummer. If you like that stuff, Moneybrother is a band to check out. My only complaint is that this CD is way too short!

Bottom Line: This is creeping me out, this guy sounds like Joe Strummer
Notable Tracks: They’re Building Walls Around Us, Reconsider Me, Bum Fucked (For Sure)
