Robb Blake Ain't Got No Soul Cd Review

Record Label: Do The Dog Records
Genre: Ska
Band Link: www.myspace.com/robbblake1

Robb Blake is the former singer of the ska band Whitmore. He has previously released 2 albums (read the reviews here and here) already and Ain’t Got No Soul is his third effort. The complaints I had about Robb Blake’s solo albums are completely gone and this is just a fine ska/reggae album.

The album starts off with “What You Do” and is a little bit heavier than what Robb has done in the past. I have to keep reminding myself that Robb is doing all this stuff himself and isn’t a full band. It certainly sounds like it though! The first two tracks are okay but I really liked the songs that followed them. “Warm Me Bones” has a nice summer feel to it, “Hit the Bottle” is a nice laid-back reggae style song, and the same goes with “Here I Am.” The guitar riff in “Here I Am” sounded awesome! “Everybody’s Leaving” has a nice mixture of ska and calypso and is a very danceable tune. If I had to pick which album is the best from Robb Blake, it has to be this one!

Bottom Line: Best album to date!
Notable Tracks: Warm Me Bones, Here I Am, Everybody’s Leaving.
