Midtempo eclectic indie pop with male/female vox. The first song was one of the worst pieces of music I had ever heard in my life (and I own Pink Floyd albums), but thankfully the album gets better, though maybe not enough to redeem it.
First the good: “Meant 4 U” (not a Prince cover) is sappy but cute, and “The World’s A Go” – prob the best song on the album – is a cool blast of sound with a cute and upbeat chorus.
There are a few more sonically interesting songs, but they’re interspersed with boring singer/songwriter fare and terrible twang rock. The female vocals aren’t that strong, but better than the guy, who sounds like a painfully constipated Tom Petty. As such, except for “At The Ring Toss”, the dual vox don’t mesh well when they attempt it.
The Pixies are definitely an influence on these guys, and I’d like to see them go more in that controlled-noise direction than the alt-country and lo-fi stuff, which other bands do much better.
