I was expecting some fetid, puerile Juggalo garbage, but Screwie Louie and his band are… interesting. They’re an eclectic, oddball quirk rock band with keys, synths, drum n’ bass, Afro-Cuban percussion, and Eurotrash. The closest influence is Oingo Boingo with some Tom Waits vocal influence.
But I wouldn’t call them “good.” The music isn’t terrible (except for some Euro beats where they sound like Eastern Europeans wearing tracksuits), but the vocals and approach are too look-at-me zany. They’re the kind of band that breaks into funk or disco for the craaaazy kitch value. Few bands can pull off the irony thing, and Screwie Louie’s brand of eclectic zaniness often misses the mark.
