I haven’t seen The Matador in theaters yet but I plan to. I hear it’s one of Pierce Brosnan’s best movies, and from judging from the music on this soundtrack, it sounds like it’s a lot of fun. The first track is one of my favorite songs from The Jam, and one of their most popular songs as well: “A Town Called Malice.” That’s the song that got me into the Jam in the first place and glad to see it open the soundtrack. It’s really a perfect song to start a soundtrack off with. I’m not sure what songs appear in the movie or not, but I know I heard the Jam in the commercials & trailers.

The second song is another fantastic & fun song I discovered a few years ago, “El Matador” by Los Fabulosos Cadillacs. It’s a combination of latin music, ska & rock! You can also hear the song during the high school reunion scene in Grosse Pointe Blank. Those two songs are by far the best songs on the soundtrack in my opinion. Definitely a good start to the soundtrack so far. After that, Tom Jones’ classic song “It’s Not Unusual” is up and makes me want to dance like Carlton (Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) around the room. This is the point of the soundtrack where I don’t know any of the songs besides Asia’s “In the Heat of the Moment.” Gotta love 80’s rock ballads! I also I have heard of the Cramps (who are on the soundtrack) but I never really got into that kind of punk. The rest of the soundtrack is mixed with instrumental score tracks from composer Rolfe Kent and some Latin-flavored tracks. I especially like the last track called “No Te Rajes” by Mariachi La Estrella. I think I heard the vocal version of this song, I think it’s a popular song just don’t know anything about it.

This was a really cool soundtrack with lots of variety. I love soundtracks that have a wide range of styles in it because there’s something for everybody. Or if you are like me and like lots of different genres, then the whole soundtrack is great! Worth checking out and listening to.

Bottom Line: Great soundtrack to a movie I’m sure I’ll like.
