Student Rick have somehow tapped into that special sound that sticks in people’s heads and affects them on both aesthetic and emotional levels. They do play that emo indie-pop-punk stuff that I can’t stand, but their combination of catchy hooks, perfect vocal harmony, tight and imaginative musicianship, and memorable lyrics overwhelmed my initial bias. If you hate emo, this might be the band that turns you onto it. It’s a fantastic album and Victory was very insightful to break away from their metalcore mold for a moment to release this gem. Student Rick, I love you.
