Too Many Crooks hail from the lovely Levellers land of Brighton, UK and play bouncy 2-tone ska like the Hotknives, Bad Manners and the Toasters. I’ve reviewed a few albums from Too Many Crooks and a lot of them have been reissued on Do the Dog. I’m glad they are being re-issued because I wouldn’t hear these albums at all and you probably wouldn’t either. After the great debut album of “Bounce,” Too Many Crooks released “Inside.” This album was released on the now defunct T Leaf Records about a decade, and has been unavailable for a few years. Like with other reissues, this album contains new artwork, it’s remastered and also includes 4 unreleased bonus tracks.

The first song, “Kiss,” gets the album started off nicely but “Salvation” sounds like the stuff that Too Many Crooks is known for. Which is just poppy, quirky ska music that will get your rude bwoy ass up and start dancing. I’ve heard the “Happy Song” somewhere before but I honestly can’t remember where? Maybe on another compilation or even on Myspace? Yeah, I don’t really like that song that much. I like the band the most when they play fast ska music, but there is also a few tunes I like that are slow. I really like the title track “Inside” and think the horn riffs are cool. The only thing I don’t like about Too Many Crooks, is they sing the same verses over way too many times and it starts to become repetitive & annoying to me. But if you don’t already own this album, be sure to check it out if you can.

Bottom Line: Decent sophomore release from the ska band from Brighton.
Notable Tracks: Salvation, Tie Me Up, Inside
