New York City is the epitome of music and rock and roll. On any given night
you can hear a variety of different genres, including punk rock and hip
hop. One particular area that stands out as far as punk rock central is
concerned, the east village, around St Marks Place. I remember this area
because it housed clubs like CBGBs, Coney Island High (Thanks for closing
Guiliani, YOU JERK) and The Continental, which was right around the corner
from CIH. Now, you can enjoy the live sounds of The Continental with two
volumes of live music, featuring some legends like Joey and Dee Dee Ramone.

Recorded back in 1999, The Continental wanted to record the great live
atmosphere that took place every night, with its legion of fans who would
trek from all over the tri state area to hear their favorite bands play the
local city pub. Some of the bands that would show up to play were The
Bouncing Souls, Murphy’s Law, Agnostic Front, Joey Ramone (who lived across
the street) and the Cro Mags to name a few. Regarded as not the largest
venue in the village, The Continental still packed the house and also gave
you more of a community feeling, whether it was to see the bands, or just
drink and party. Not many places could say that about live music and
underground, independent music.
