This album was released over 20 years ago and now is remastered from the original tapes, PLUS there’s 6 tracks added to the album now. Many people know Coxsone Dodd for producing The Wailers, Dennis Brown and every other reggae artist in Jamaica. Here’s a best-of compilation that showcases the others: bands and artists you might not have heard from before.

The album opens up with “A Love I Can Feel” by John Holt, and the beat sounds very familiar. The compilation features a lot of beats I’ve heard before but not sure if these are the originals are not. Maybe they are, since this is a best-of album after all? “Can I change Your Mind” is a song I know from the Pietasters, who cover this song brilliantly. The original or this version is also nicely done by Alton Ellis and worthy of bands like the Pietasters covering it. After listening to this CD over and over again, I can tell that I have indeed heard each of these songs or the song’s beat in other songs before. I guess that’s what Jamaicans are known for in their music, re-using previous music and making it their own. Not sure what else to really say about this compilation. The overall Cd sounds great since it was remastered and the music is very enjoyable. This is a must-have for any Studio One fans out there.

Bottom Line: Great remastered Studio One compilation featuring some bands I never heard of!
Notable Tracks: Music from John Holt, Alton Ellis, Lone Ranger, Sugar Minott, Heptones, Slim Smith, and Wailing Souls
