The Love Guru is the new Mike Myers movie that comes out June 20th to a theater near you. The soundtrack comes out June 17th on Lakeshore Records; the label that seems to be releasing just about every soundtrack these days. The Love Guru is about Maurice Pitka, a spiritual and self help guru who must help a hockey player get back with his estranged wife. This is the first original character for Mike Myers since Austin Powers. I’m still skeptical on whether this movie will be funny or a comedy disaster. Most of these tracks are filled with Mike Myers singing songs in his Indian accent, and it’s kind of entertaining. I’m not sure if these tracks are in the movie or not.
The songs that Mike Myers sings on are: “9 to 5,” “More Than Words,” and “The Joker.” Some of the artists that appear on this soundtrack include Cornershop, Robbie Nevil, B.A.S.K.O, Celine Dion, and others. There is one score track from George S. Clinton and I liked that track a lot. Besides the Mike Myers songs, I didn’t really like the rest of these songs. Unless you like the music from the movie, I wouldn’t get this album.
Bottom Line: The Mike Myers songs are okay, but are a little bit cheesy.
Notable Tracks: 9 to 5, More Than Words, The Joker, C’est La Vie
