This is the soundtrack to Woody Allen’s new movie, Scoop. It stars Hugh Jackman and Scarlet Johansson; wasn’t she in his last movie “Match Point” as well? Hmm weird, anyway…I haven’t the faintest idea what this movie is about but I guess it’s some romantic comedy (shocker!). I’m not a Woody Allen fan so I don’t plan on seeing this but the soundtrack is quite good!

Basically this soundtrack is filled with very memorable classical music pieces from Swan Lake, Peer Gynt Suite, The Nutcracker, Sabre Dance, and some waltzes from Johann Strauss. The album starts off with 6 songs from Swan Lake, composed by Tchaikovsky and performed by the Berlin Philharmonic. Whenever I hear music from Swan Lake, I don’t think of the ballet per say, but the crazy comedy Brain Donors. Nothing like watching 3 guys ruin the ballet by playing basketball, going swan hunting and throwing giant toothbrushes at the star of the ballet. Man I love that movie but that’s another review for another day. After those songs is a few waltzes (polkas, whatever) from Strauss, and I just love Johann work. “Sabre Dance” is always a fun classical piece to listen to but in the end; it always reminds me of some nut spinning a bunch of plates on sticks. Edvard Greig’s Peer Gynt suite is one of the first classical albums I ever got and still love that to this day. “Morning Mood” and “In the Hall of the Mountain King” are just brilliant! Rounding out the album is three songs by the late Lester Lanin. All three songs “Adios Muchachos,” “Recado,” and “Dengozo” all have a latin jazz flavor in the same vein as Perez Prado. Overall this soundtrack compiles some fantastic & interesting classical pieces as well as some more contemporary works. If you like the music in the movie, then this soundtrack is for you!

Bottom Line: Nice soundtrack filled with classic masterpieces & some latin-ish jazz numbers.
Notable Tracks: Swan Lake: Scene 1, Danse des Cygnes; Tritsch Tratsch Polka, Sabre Dance, Peer Gynt Suite No. 1
