The Counting Crows played The Town Hall in New York City and recorded the performance for Blu-Ray, DVD, and CD. For this Blu-Ray, you can see the band performing their debut album August And Everything After in its entirely.
The band goes through track by track, re-working and expanding upon their songs of their classic album. Adam Duritz is an interesting frontman for the band. His style reminds me of Dave Matthews a little, who I don’t really like that much either. Even though I don’t really like the band that much, he certainly knows how to get the crowd involved and engaged. Sometimes I was kind of bored with the performance but that’s because I don’t really know much from the Counting Crows. I did like hearing the tracks “Mr Jones” and “Rain King” though.
The quality of the Blu-Ray is good, but only at 1080i. But most music fans won’t care about that and it’s just a nitpicky honestly. The audio sounded good to me as well. The direction and the shots were excellent I thought. After you’re done with the concert, you can watch an “in depth” featurette with Adam Duritz and Charlie Gillingham.
I don’t like every song by the Counting Crows, but the ones I do know I enjoyed watching. Fans of the band will definitely want to get this since this is one of their first concerts available on Blu-Ray.
