Tommy Boy has to be one of my favorite comedies believe it or not. You watch the movie once, and then you find yourself, keep turning it on when it’s on cable. Then you start quoting lines from the movie, and acting like Chris Farley. And so on…Now Paramount is going back to some of their classic comedies and making some kick ass special edition DVDs. Tommy Boy fans will love this DVD!

Tommy Boy is about a big dummy finally graduating college, and going back home to work for his dad’s auto parts manufacturer plant. He finds out his Dad is going to remarry a sexy aerobics instructor, and that she has a son who’s Tommy’s age. During the reception at the wedding, Tommy’s Father drops dead of a headattack and Tommy is devasted since he was really close to his Dad. The company is now in jeopardy and Tommy takes matters into his own hands and wants to sell a bunch of break pads to save the company. Tommy takes his Dad’s lackey, Richard with him to help him become a salesman. Richard was in Tommy’s grade in high school and is a bit of a smart ass, and weren’t really friends but they become friends on the road. On the road Tommy and Richard bond and beat the shit out of each other at the same time, and experience some crazy crap together. They might be able to save the company, but there might be some other foul play involved that they have to worry about…

I’m just as surprised by the director in this movie that this film became a comedy classic. First time I saw it, It was funny but it gets funnier and funnier every time you see it. Then you hear other people talking about it, it makes you want to go back and watch the movie again. I think this movie could be the top 5 favorite comedy movies among college students. I still laugh at the film and just think it’s hilarious, mostly because of the comedic duo of Chris Farley and David Spade. I was upset when Chris Farley died, because I feel the man could have gave us a lot of funny movies besides the ones he did. Granted, the last few movies he did weren’t exactly good. Actually, they were outright bad but I think he would have came around to do some good flicks again. I just don’t think David Spade and Chris Farley haven’t been in anything funnier than this movie. Black Sheep was good but wasn’t as great as Tommy Boy. The supporting actors in the movie were good as well. Rob Lowe was funny and seeing him get tortured throughout the film was even funnier. I’m glad Bo Derek was in the film because she’s still beautiful! That scene where you see her for the first time, coming out of the pool…oh man!!! But it just seemed like everyone on the movie, seemed like they had a blast making the movie.

I’m glad this movie got the Special Edition treatment because it deserves it. There’s a whole other disc just dedicated to extras and there’s a lot to check out! The first thing I watched was the gag reel and that was really funny! I love watching people screw up their lines and acting up between takes. Just from watching the film, I knew there would be a lot of bloopers and gags. There’s about 3 or 4 minutes worth of that and it ends up with the crew doing a prank to Farley involving a plastic cow. That’s worth watching for sure. The deleted & extended scenes were okay. There’s a lot of them but nothing that really needs to be put back into the movie. There’s one extended scene with Tommy in the break pad section of his Dad’s plant. You see Tommy acting up even more with the crane thing and it’s pretty funny what he does. Only Chris Farley could make a crane contraption funny! The DVD also has some great featurettes about the making of the movie, and stuff that happened behind the scenes. Some interesting things in there. Other extras include a photo gallery, lots of trailer and TV spots, storyboard comparisons and audio commentary with the director Peter Segal.

If Tommy Boy is a movie you love, than this is the DVD to get! Even if you have the older DVD version, buy this one and sell the other on eBay or something. This is by far the superior version and won’t disappoint fans of the comedy.
