I liked the first two season of Viva La Bam, but then after that, it seems like Bam has been stretching for material. A lot of the episodes are still very funny but the show isn’t as good as the first two seasons.

Season 4 starts out with April & Phil, Bam’s parents, taking a trip to France without the troublemaking CKY crew, so they can celebrate their anniversary. Bam changes that and decides to crash their vacation. After the Eurotrip, April bets Bam and his friends that they can’t get real jobs to pay for the heating bill. So hilarity ensues when they all try to go for odd jobs and end up getting fired from most of the jobs. In the end, they do lose and clean up the house instead of April…Bam style. Then, when the state of PA denies Bam to do something, he creates his own state. I couldn’t watch that episode by the way, because it was so damn stupid. Other episodes in season 4 include Bam visiting the Bayou and torturing everyone on the trip, Bam and CKY crew do a snow race at a ski resort, and Bam visits Mexico while Don Vito gets stuck with annoying Brandon learning Spanish. The last episode of season 4 shows the guys being bored (it looks like with this season) so they develop a wheel game where they have to do random crap. Sort of like a scavenger hunt.

Season 5 is on disc 2 and starts out with the the group going to Brazil. Don Vito thinks Brazil is located in Bahamas so Bam makes him go with him and they meet up with skater Bob Burnquist. They walk around the rainforests, do some skating and pick on Vito…like usual. Meanwhile, back home, Dico is driving April & Phil crazy because he made the house into a rainforest and keeps sneaking up on them in the bushes. The episode after that is about Bam actually being somewhat nice to his mom since it was her birthday. The finale of the day, he sent them to Atlantic City to see Billy Idol and then party with Idol. Bam ended up picking up Billy Idol in a Lamborghini in the beginning, and they ended up making a sunroof in it since it was a nice day. Talk about fucking wackos! Other episodes include Vito finally getting some revenge on Bam, Gwar pays the Margera’s a visit, and Bam, his parents & Raab go to Finland.

Is it just me or does these seasons seem more fixed, fake and just plain stupid? At least the first season or so, it didn’t come off as that as much but this time it just seems so staged. The element of surprising his parents and acting up seems to be going out the window and in the end, making the episodes less funny. Don’t get me wrong, the show still is funny and outrageous, I just think they need to go back to the old ways of causing raucous. They seem to be running out of things to do on the show because some of the stuff isn’t as funny, like that stupid Bam Land episode. Plus, I can’t stand Brandon DiCamillo and his stupid impressions and weird behavior. I think that guy is so god damn stupid and annoying, and what he says isn’t funny at all. But the show does have some funny episodes like when they go to the Bayou, or the snow race was pretty good because what they did to Ryan Dunn in the jacuzzi. Lots of little things in the episodes that I found funny but not really any particular episodes. I liked when Gwar came on the show because they are just hilarious. I was cracking up when Oderus climbed into bed with April & Phil and was crying about it being scary upstairs. I just knew something like that was going to happen.

There’s always good extras for Viva La Bam DVDs. The main thing that’s always good is the deleted scenes. They are split up into 2 sections, Season 4 & 5. There are a lot of scenes with Vito and Ryan Dunn but some extended scenes like the lie detector scene. Also included on the bonus material disc is Bam’s MTV Cribs segment, Viva La Top 5, and Random Ass moments. Plus commentary with a lot of people from the show but I have yet to listen to commentary. I’m sure it has tons of cursing and bashing each other. Typical Bam stuff.

Seasons 4 & 5 are funny seasons but I think the show is running out of material. It just seems they could be more creative with the type of things they do on the show. I do like when they do scavenger hunts, and go on vacations but when they do stupid episodes, I don’t feel like watching anymore. Nonetheless, Viva La Bam is still entertaining and the DVD is still worth buying if you liked these seasons.
