What Happens In Vegas is a movie where you can tell what’s going to happen just based on the trailers. It’s a cliche, predictable romantic comedy that I got stuck watching. But it’s actually not THAT bad, and fairly amusing in parts.

The film is about two New Yorkers going on two separate trips to Las Vegas after having a tough time with their current situations. Jack (Ashton Kutcher) was fired by his boss/Dad and Joy (Cameron Diaz) was dumped by her fiance as all her friends were in the apartment listening in on the conversation. They end up meeting up and even though they are completely mismatched, they drunkenly get hitch. Shocker! They decide it was a drunken mistake but as they are breaking up, Jack wins 3 million dollars on the slots. They take the matter to court and the judge sentences the couple to 6 months of hard marriage. After that, comedy ensues like you’ve seen in no other movie. Okay, that last sentence I lied. They try to out-scam each other into slipping up, or suckering them into something that would have the other win the money. Sort of think of How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days (yes I was forced to watch that one too). But over the time, Jack and Joy start to fall for each other. I’d continue writing but you already know what happens.

I had no desire to see this movie but it had its moments. A lot of the stuff that happened in the movie was very cliche that I’ve seen in a dozen of other films. But Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher did a good job with the roles that they were in. Cameron Diaz actually looked decent in this one. Rob Corddry was the funny sidekick with some of the best lines in the movie. But with that said, this movie was predictable before the opening scene even started. Even some of things that actually happen in this movie are unbelievable and pretty dumb. What judge would solve an issue like this and make them stay married for 6 months because he believes in the sanctity of marriage. Just have the two people split the money and be done with it. But then there would be no dumb romantic comedy. If you’re bored on a weekend, and your girlfriend wants to watch something; then check out What Happens In Vegas. If not, stay away.
