On the heels of their 2009 release, The People or the Gun, Anti-Flag will be hitting the road for their first run of U.S. dates since Warped Tour. The tour will feature very special guests Aiden, Cancer Bats and Fireworks. The four band bill will kick off the party on January 12th in Detroit and wrap things in Anti-Flag’s home town of Pittsburgh on February 6th. The band’s long time friends and fellow activists Greenpeace, peta2, and Amnesty International will also be involved with the tour and have a table at each show. Innes Clothing, owned by Matt from Flogging Molly, will be partnering with Anti-Flag to donate clothes and other goods to various local homeless and youth shelters at every date of “The Economy Sucks, Let’s Party!” tour.

The weather gods were on our sides yesterday at the Toyota Pavilion at Montage Mountain in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The weather was perfect, hot at times; thankfully clouds came over in the afternoon. This year was the 15th anniversary for the Vans Warped Tour which featured punk veterans Bad Religion, NOFX, Flogging Molly, Less Than Jake, Anti-Flag, and a bunch of other bands that scream.

Anti-Flag are back with another politically charged album, but this time it’s on Side One Dummy. Their last two albums were on RCA but the band is back on an independent label now. Their previous album “The Bright Lights of America” was a big disappointment for me. The songs weren’t that great, and seemed like something was lacking in their songs. It just wasn’t good. Their other RCA album “For Blood and Empire” was their best album in my opinion so when I put on this album, I was hoping “The People or the Gun” would be more in line with that one. I think Anti-Flag have rebounded from their last dud of a record!

I guess Anti-Flag didn’t like major labels or they were just dropped from their label. They are now releasing their next album on Side One Dummy! Personally I think it’s a perfect fit for the band, since Side One Dummy has a great lineup of bands & artists. Their Side One Dummy debut will be released on June 9th and it will be called “The People or the Gun.”

While Anti-Flag may finally have their major label record contract and were probably called every name in the book for signing to RCA; the band has not lost any of their core values. They continue to preach about politics at each of their shows and speak their minds as freely as ever. In fact, their latest album, “For Blood and Empire” is uber political and stays true to the band’s original in-your-face punk sound. Bassist, Chris #2 is an absolutely amazing person on stage and off, he was even open to talking about his “big time” record deal.
