Filthy Thieving Bastards “My Pappy Was A Pistol” out Nov 8

The Filthy Thieving Bastards’ songwriting duo of Johnny Bonnel and Darius Koski (both members of San Francisco’s beloved Swinging Utters) will be releasing “My Pappy Was A Pistol” on BYO Records 11/08/05. They are joined by bassist Spike Slawson (Me First and the Gimme Gimmes), Randy Burk on drums doing double duty as the album’s producer, and a very special appearance by Spider Stacy of one of their most cited influences, The Pogues.

The album was recorded during the spring and summer of 2005 and delivers in place of audio distortion and anthemic guitar riffs for which the members other bands are noted for a more traditional timbre of accordion, violin, piano, organ, mandolin, pedal steel and upright bass (a bulk of those instruments is tackled by Darius, who is a classically trained musician). Often compared with folk rock luminaries, The Pogues, and once described as “Billy Bragg as a crusty old punk on a bender,” Filthy Thieving Bastards are heavily influenced by their own experiences and expertise in the punk rock scene.

“My Pappy Was A Pistol” is the bands second full length release, the first being their 2001 “Melody of Retreads and Broken Quills.” Art and new tracks are posted on FTB’s myspace page:
