I haven’t seen this movie yet, even though I own it haha. Just haven’t gotten around to seeing it yet. This is the film score to the Bruce Willis movie. The movie, in a nutshell, is about a former hostage negotiator who’s past traumas come back to haunt him and he gets stuck into bad situations. Is that right? I don’t know, something like that.

Alexandre Desplat has only composed a few scores like Girl with a Pearl Earring, Birth, and the Luzhin Defense. After hearing this score, I hope he starts to compose more scores because this sounded good. Desplat also conducted the score and did so with the London Symphony Orchestra. No wonder why the score sounded great on CD!

The opening track “Child’s Spirit” is a haunting, kind of spooky track sung by Desplat’s daughter Antonia. The piano cues played by Alexandre were done well, and I like the high & low scale it had. If that makes sense at all. Some of the tracks are louder than others, and sometimes they are quiet and eerie. I’m sure it works really well in the movie. I like the louder tracks more because I don’t really find it enjoyable to hear thr minimalist music. But if you saw the movie, and noticed if the score was good, then be sure to check out this score from French composer Alexandre Desplat.

Bottom Line: Nice score from Desplat, and I’m anticipating his next film score.
Notable Tracks: Child’s Spirt, Hostage, The House
