I’m no dummy. I can tell right off that a band named “Alternative Sound Of Life” is going to be something so embarrassing it’ll give you stomach cramps. Like the kind of music you expect to hear on the Venice Beach boardwalk, performed by smelly white guys with dreadlocks who thinks the meaning of life can only be found within THE ULTIMATE DRUM CIRCLE.

Luckily, they’re not completely clueless alternarock hippies or generic drum n’ bass/spacey ambient (the other genre could fit the band name bill). They’re just mediocre bar rock/grunge with dramatic vocals that sound like the dude’s nuts are being squeezed until he cries. Assuming he has nuts. (“She Whispers Loud,” indeed!)

But I didn’t totally, completely hate these guys because the guitars are pretty rad. They’ve got a fast single-note-picking thing that is catchy and retro and reminds me of old-school video game soundtracks, like Ghosts N’ Goblins or some shit. I’m gonna go play me some Marble Madness now.
