Having been familiar with Nashville Pussy and the US Bombs but never listening to the Die Hunns before, I was taken back at first by what I thought would have been a straight up punk/metal infusion. Instead, what I found on “You Rot Me” shocked me, thrilled me and pleased me.

Upon first listen, I had thought the Duane Peters had gone soft. Instead, he seems to have evolved to the next level of his career. It seems that you can only play the same old punk rock over and over so many times. “You Rot Me” is a sonically infused rock and roll record with Duane sounding more like Shane MacGowan than Sid Vicious. The music is a far departure from anything in the US Bombs or early Nashville Pussy catalogs. Most of the tracks follow a slower 1-2-3-4, guitar solo, then vocals format. The songs are catchy enough to make you want to sing along and I really like Corey Parks tracks. She’s the six-foot plus Amazonian hottie who used to be in Nashville Pussy. In my opinion Duane Peters sounds a lot more comfortable and well suited to this style of music. It just shows the diversity of someone who has been labeled as nothing more than a run of the mill punk rocker.

Jumping ship from the punk to the mellower basement rock on “You Rot Me” would have been a big step to take but it seems to have paid off with and album that sounds like it should have been on the shelves next to KISS and Aerosmith back in the seventies. The sound is a good throwback to the days before punk stole the limelight even though it comes from one of the more recognizable punk rockers of today. I seriously felt like putting on a denim jacket and growing my hair long. Ok, I would go that far, but “You Rot Me” has piqued my interest in the Die Hunns and their new sound. The album is solid rock and roll throughout. It may be missing the flair of the US Bombs and Nashville Pussy but it makes up for it with some catchy songs, some great riffs, and a taste of roots rock. Don’t be afraid to step outside of your punk boundaries and let your hair down for once. Rock on!!!
