The next chapter in the Narnia saga takes place a 1000 years after the Kings and Queens left Narnia in the first movie. After being summoned by Prince Caspian, the Prince and the Pevensie siblings team up to battle the evil King Miraz. Harry Gregson-Williams is back to score the adventure film and this could be one of his best scores!
Gregson-Williams sends us right back to Narnia with the opening track “Prince Caspian Flees” and you already get the sense that this movie is going to be darker than the first. The track is very action-packed, and it’s played over the opening credits as the Prince is fleeing from the King’s men. Harry uses the old themes from The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe but also expands upon them as well. He created a lot of new themes & motifs since it has new characters, new locations, etc. One of my favorite scenes in the movie and one of my favorite tracks on the album is “Raid on the Castle.” I just love the scene in that movie, even though it doesn’t turn out so well for them. I like the use of the choir in most of these songs, it gives the music an epic sound. Some of the songs actually give me goosebumps like “Battle at Aslan’s How.” For this album, there are mostly the action cues but if you really want to know how the score is, just go see the movie! Besides the score, there are 4 tracks by bands/artists like Regina Spektor, Oren Lavie, Switchfoot and Hanne Hukkelberg. I didn’t care for any of those tracks since I was mainly interested in the score. If you liked the movie and the music, check out this score by Harry Gregson-Williams.
Bottom Line: One of Harry Gregson-Williams best scores to date
Notable Tracks: Prince Caspian Flees, Journey to the How, Raid on the Castle, Battle at Aslan’s How
