There’s something about the Hold Steady that makes me want to swear. Maybe it’s singer Craig Finn’s drunken Springsteen-aping drunk-as-fuck delivery, or the fact that band talk about the types of people that you and I fucking know, like those kids at the shows that just can’t fucking get a grip. The Hold Steady are the best fucking bar band in the world right now, and with their third album in as many years, they’re going to fucking prove why you should stop fucking listening to anyone but them.

Anytime I play the Hold Steady for friends or enemies, they’re all like “what the fuck is with this guy’s voice? He’s all like talking and shit”. There are a couple things that might impede enjoyment of a Hold Steady song; the following are common problems when dealing with the band’s utter awesomeness.

1. You’re sober. Drink at least 6 beers and you’ll fucking get it.
2. You listen to Death Cab. Seriously, what the fuck?
3. You don’t have an awesome car stereo. Because this is music to blare with the windows down in the middle of buttfuck anywhere.
4. You have never heard Born To Run. And don’t even fucking ask who that’s by.
5. You still think you’re part of the scene. Get over it, dude.

While it might seem like those are difficult criteria just to appreciate an album, but they’re more rules for life. Listen to them, and listen to Boys and Girls in America and it’ll all make sense.

Bottom Line: The best fucking album of the motherfucking year. Buy it now motherfuckers.
Notable Tracks: Stuck Between Stations, Chips Ahoy!, You Can Make Him Like You, Southtown Girls
