Female vocals in punk make me giddy, so I tend to be more forgiving of below-average female-fronted bands. Indeed, I tried my best to like this CD. Unfortunately, it rarely scores higher than mediocre, but I think I’ve pinpointed where they go wrong.

Simply, they’re not cohesive. The singer Leiana wants to be all things – pouty Avril-like pop punker (2B Unkind), tough girl rocker (Couldn’t Tell), gothy (Can’t Reply, Friend), grungy (Bitter), and alterna-riot grrly (Whichside). While not awful, she’s not a particularly strong singer either, so the pandering to styles results in a lack of one.

The rest of the band isn’t off the hook either. The guitars are basic and dull, though sometimes they go off and do their own thing, but rarely befitting to the pace, adding to the looseness of their sound. The drummer seems to wish the band was faster and more rocking, and I’m sure he’s not alone.

Leiana has potential and could be good if they sped things up to a fast, catchy, poppy punk sound. What they’re going for here is anyone’s guess but it’s not working.

Bottom Line: Female vox over mix of styles and mediocre execution.
