Lifeguard Nights is Vincent Brue from the South Jersey Seashore Lifeguard Convention Band and he is prolific, to say the least. I think this is the fifth album he’s released in the past two years.
Each album seems to go in a different direction. Indie-pop, lounge, heartland rock… This one is Beck style alt-folk: upbeat folk instruments meets indie fuzziness, unusual melodies, and lackadaisical, poetic vocals. Many bands attempt this and few succeed – this guy does it very well and by himself.
There are some filler tracks, slow downturns, and just odd inclusions (the sinister “Coming For You”, for one) but the good tunes (see below) make this a hidden indie-pop/alt-folk gem.
Bottom Line:
Notable Tracks: Blushing Bride, Wandering Eyes, Secrets and Lies, One Last Kiss, Fire Engine Red
