The latest Me First and the Gimme Gimmes album is only a 5 track EP, featuring music from bands/artists from Australia. While it’s a short album, it should fill up fans’ appetites to hear more punk rock covers from the group.

The band covers INXS, Air Supply, The Easybeats, Olivia Newton-John, and Rick Springfield. The tracks are laid out in that order, with “Never Tear Us Apart” starting things off. The first 3 tracks are the best on the EP. “All out of Love” begins with a Black Flag riff, which I found amusing. The Easybeats’ “Friday on my Mind” was my favorite track on the EP. It’s just a great cover that does the original justice. The last 2 tracks aren’t that special; maybe I’m just not a Rick Springfield or Newton-John fan. I’m kind of curious how they came upon these songs, since most of the tracks aren’t the well-known songs from these artists…well maybe not for The Easybeats. I’m also curious why Men At Work, Midnight Oil, AC/DC, Nick Cave, and Kylie Minogue weren’t on this album? I think covering those artists might have been better for the Gimme Gimmes.

Bottom Line: Decent EP but way too short and not enough covers of bands from Down Under.
Notable Tracks: Never Tear Us Apart, All Out Of Love, Friday on my My Mind
