I love when a band effortlessly takes pieces from everything cool and turns it into a brand new thing that still sounds good. Ouija Radio – now, what is going on here? Well, if you only listen to the first couple of songs, you’re assailed by a Casio-noise punk delivery but with strong classic rock riffing and overwhelming jaggedness but in a psych-rock void. Of course you’re thinking “hipster garage band crap,” but the female vocals are Joan Jett-ish and upbeat, and they hook you in.

As you continue to listen, the band smoothes out the crazy post-punk and plays up their Zep-meets-Heart riffs, as well as delving into folk and gypsy rock. There are some mind-numbing psych-rock lulls, but the bulk is very interesting. The band stops short of being catchy, but their complexity and rockitude are engaging.

Bottom Line: Reminded me somehow of a female-fronted, less-catchy The Music
Notable Tracks: The Devil and the Watch, Secret Garden, Cookie
