Bryan raves about these guys, so I’m glad to finally get my hands on them. They place bouncy 2Toney ska, and they remind me of a less serious Hotknives. Maybe a mix of the Hotknives and the Busters. Great keys and guitars, peppy drums, decent vox, and just the right about of horns (I love the European ska sound that emphasizes keys, guitars and bass to carry the melodies, instead of relying on a massive amount of brass.)

Even though this is a collection of earlier demos and EPs, it’s impressive that they were great songwriters in their early days as well — each tune sounds unique to the others with a wide range of differentiality (is that a word?), but it’s not overboard nor does it distract from the upbeat danceability of the skeeeyaa.

And if you like covers, check out their spirited take on the Clash’s “Bankrobber” and their psychedelic, dubby version of “Train to Skaville.” Some cool dubby/electro remixes round out this interesting and fun collection.
