This unique punk band hails from the Salton Sea in California, which I’ve heard is also known as the Salton Sewer. Apparently, the area was created from an earthquake or something that formed a large crater, which was quickly filled up by ocean water and assorted agricultural runoff, creating a stinking, undrinkable, unuseable cess pit. I read about it in Neil Peart’s last book.

Anyway, this six-piece plays a raucous, rowdy punk n’ roll with layers of buzzing guitars, cowbells, washboards, bugles, you name it. Yet even with all this extraneous equipment, they still have a straight-forward catchy party-punk sound. They’re kinda equal parts Dead Kennedys, AC/DC, and Emmet Otter’s Jug Band, but in a very good way.

There are no weak tracks, but especially check out “Rule Maker”, “Mission’s Message” (best cowbell-washboard solo in punk history!), and the high-octane, super-killer cover of Motorhead’s “Please Don’t Touch.” The more I listen to this CD, the more I love it. Great release by BYO, who’ve been putting out excellent catchy street punk recently.
