Hollywoodland is about the mysterious death of Superman. I thought he was the Man of Steel? Well not the real one, the actor George Reeves who played him back in the day. Reeves played the Man of Steel on the TV series “the Adventures of Superman” and mysteriously died in his Hollywood home. Reeves is played by Ben Affleck and it’s good to see the guy get work after Gigli. This story is one of Hollywood’s most unsolved mysteries. Man, Robert Stack would have been great to narrate this film! This soundtrack features all the music from the movie (i’m assuming that it is since I haven’t seen the film yet).

The soundtrack opens with the theme song to Superman and then goes into some Platter’s “The Great Pretender.” I love hearing the Platters and other doo-wop bands. The music on the Hollywoodland soundtrack has a lot of things you might hear around the late 50’s. You got music from Bo Diddley, Conway Twitty (that name still cracks me up), Frankie Laine, John Coltrane, Little Richard and Jerry Butler. So the styles you really have on the soundtrack are jazzy instrumentals, doo-wop, blues and lounge/big band. If that’s the type of music you are interested in, you might like the soundtrack to Hollywoodland. Of course, if you enjoyed the movie and the music in the film, this would be ideal to buy as well.

Bottom Line: Decent soundtrack that has some doo-wop, blues, jazz and big band music.
Notable Tracks: I like music from the Platters, Bo Diddley, Frankie Laine, and Jerry Butler
