The latest romantic comedy is actually a good one. It’s got funny dialogue and situations, great cast and the movie isn’t just for women to enjoy.

Sleeping With Other People is about Jake (Jason Sudeikis) and Lainey (Alison Brie) who hook up and then lose touch. They run into each other 20 years later and realize they are both sucky at commitments. They don’t want to ruin the friendship with sex so they try to stay friends even though they clearly have feelings for each other. Their deal as being just friends becomes difficult when the sexual tensions becomes too much for them.

I’m surprised not a lot of people talked about Sleeping With Other People because I thought it was good, funny and worth watching. Maybe Trainwreck overshadowed it’s release and people can’t handle more than one other romantic comedy in a certain period? The cast was excellent. I liked Jason Sudeikis since SNL and the movies he’s done since then. I guess this was a bit different for him since it was a romantic comedy and he had to do some sex scenes. Alison Brie is a cutie pie and was a reason for me seeing this to be honest. The chemistry between Jason and Alison was great; I’d like to see more movies with those two. Adam Scott plays a douchebag well (Step Brothers for one) and Andrea Savage and Jason Mantzoukas had some funny lines.

The story itself was a bit predictable but what romantic comedy isn’t these days? The unpredictable storyline would be if Jake and Lainey didn’t get together but the overall story wouldn’t be satisfying then. I think the problem with this movie might be some people thinking this is more of a laugh out loud comedy like Horrible Bosses or We’re the Millers. There’s some funny lines and scenes, but it’s not really a full fledge comedy in my opinion. With that said, I still liked the movie a lot and would watch it again.

The DVD didn’t contain any special features except an Ultraviolet digital copy, which I guess would be better to have than owning the DVD at this point. There was no Blu-Ray release which you can start to see more studios and filmmakers skipping it because streaming is the future. I’m still not convinced because you need internet and a WiFi for that and not everyone has it.
