Being a lover of horror movies, and seeing movies such as “Darkness Falls” being released, I was a little iffy on this one. Sure I’m a 100% Resident Evil dork so the idea of this movie appealed to me, but I also thought it would just be a cheap knockoff.

Boy was I ever wrong. Sure there were some similarities that only people like me would notice but this movie was one of the best horror movies I’ve seen in a long time. The story basically goes like this: one person gets infected from a chimpanzee with ‘rage’, and it spreads from there. A bike messenger, Jim (Cillian Murphy) wakes up from a coma and discovers there has been a mass evacuation, in one of the scariest scenes I’ve seen in a film. He walks all throughout London looking for answers. London is absolutely deserted. Everything was filmed on location which makes the movie even cooler.

I can’t wait for the DVD to see how the hell they did this scene. It’s so creepy, and the score during this scene makes it all the more frightening. After running into some zombies (in this case they’re just called ‘the infected’), he comes across more survivors. Mark (Huntley) and Selena (Harris). They give him the rundown on what’s been going on with the evacuation. Everyone is just trying to survive, not trying to save the world or find a cure. This movie is marvelously acted, especially considering this is a horror movie. I’m pretty sure it was filmed on 8mm, I could be wrong, but either way, the cinematography is what made it freaky. Everything was dark, so it gave you the eerie feeling that this movie was all about. The infected were crazy fast and vicious, attacking at the slightest sound. The makeup on these guys was really well done, yet again I was surprised, Never have I seen a zombie movie with this much thought and work into it.

A lot of people have been saying “oh it’s not all that scary” but once you see it for a second time and actually sit there thinking about the movie, it’s SCARY. I honestly haven’t seen a movie this disturbing since ‘The Exorcist’. So, if you’re looking for a horror movie that’s actually GOOD and not cheesy (although I AM looking forward to Freddy vs. Jason and I will be reviewing that haha…it’s going to be the blockbuster hit of the summer…right…), go see ’28 days later’, they re-released it with an alternate ending after the credits. The original is better, but it is worth sitting through the credits to see this alternate one, it’s kinda cool. Much darker… Is there hope against the infected? Check out the movie and see for yourself :)

Favorite Scenes: When Jim wakes up and is wandering alone, the church, I loved every part of this damn movie ha ha
