The punk community has lost another pioneer. The Buzzcocks frontman Pete Shelley has died at the age of 63 from a heart attack. It has been rumored this afternoon that he passed this morning and management has confirmed the sad news. the Buzzcocks were another band I never saw live and wished I made more of an effort to see them perform and shoot photos of. I didn’t really get into the Buzzcocks when I got into punk in the late 80s but started to listen to them later 90s. Pete’s distinctive voice will be sadly missed!
BBC confirmed the news:
Their management told the BBC that Shelley died on Thursday in Estonia where he was living.
BBC music correspondent Lizo Mzimba said Buzzcocks, who formed in the 1970s, were regarded as a significant influence on the music scene.
