The Last Seen exist in a weird overlapping world of hipster music and butt rock. At their best (and I use the term loosely), they play somewhat driven emo-tinged garage rock with dance-punk breakdowns. On the other two songs, they begin with looongg balad sections and then rise up to a breathless piano-driven crescendo, or something. Plus there’s an echo-y production and reverbing vocal effects that adds velveeta to their fondue of cheese.
I’m not saying these guys should be cookie-cutter skinny-black-jeans garage rock, but there are better ways to freshen your sound than with lengthy Elton John intros.
