It seems once a mainstream artist hits that certain point in his or her career, they release a best-of album. Then after that, the record labels try to pump out as many different albums as possible. But they call them something different each time like greatest hits, best-of insert name , classic hits, millennium collection, best of the hits, best-of the best-of albums and so on. And usually they try to market those albums by re-mastering the songs, or putting some mediocre NEW song on it to make people buy it. Or they say the actual band or artist put the compilation together themselves, which is the case with this collection.

Well now it’s time to talk about the 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection Cd for Rob Zombie. The album starts out with a few White Zombie tracks. “Thunder Kiss 65” and “Black Sunshine” are the songs that got me into White Zombie in the first place. I first found out about the band on Beavis and Butthead (believe it or not). They showed the video and thought the music was pretty cool. I’m not really a fan of “More Human than a Human,” just because it was played to death on alternative radio at the time. After the last White Zombie song “Super Charger Heaven,” Rob Zombie’s solo stuff kicks into high gear with the song that appeared in the Matrix, “Dragula.” That song was the first exposure I really had to Zombie’s solo material and I liked what I heard. I think by far my favorite Rob Zombie song is “Never Gonna Stop.” It’s just a great song, and even better song to drive to! But then again, maybe it’s not such a good idea to drive to that song since it’s says never gonna stop. Knowing me, I’ll end up running a group of kids over or something. ANYWAY, The Millennium Collection ends with a few songs from Zombie’s movies like House of 1000 Corpses, and the Devils Rejects.

If you already own “Past, Present & Future,” than don’t get this album because it has a lot of the same songs on it. But if you are a die-hard fan and want to hear some newer songs mixed in with some old ones; than the Millennium Collection is right up your alley.

Bottom Line: Cool collection compiled by Rob Zombie
Notable Tracks: Thunder Kiss ’65, Black Sunshine, Dragula, Never Gonna Stop
