One of the best concerts I’ve ever seen is now available to own on Blu-Ray, DVD and CD: Hans Zimmer and his amazing musicians live in Prague. While I didn’t see this particular concert in Prague, I did see it NYC and watching this has brought back all my feelings watching this live: it’s just simply amazing!

Hans Zimmer is my favorite composers besides John Williams of course. He has a such an extensive discography of music and scores over the years it’s hard to list them off. I already reviewed the NYC concert here [], but I’ll be talking about this Blu-Ray release.

I knew it was only going to be a matter of time that Hans release this popular tour on video sooner or later. Still, I would gladly pay the money I did to see that in person and experience it with everybody again. It just doesn’t provide the same punch as seeing something in person. You don’t get that rumble in your stomach when The Dark Knight is playing. It’s certainly nice to have if you’re seen the concert or not. I’ll certainly be watching it a lot.

The concert starts out with Hans coming out to play the music from Driving Miss Daisy. Then goes into Sherlock Holmes followed by a fun piece from Madagascar. I loved seeing Hans come out, then other musicians come out. Then when they go into Madagascar, the curtain rises from behind them and reveals the choir. It was a fun moment seeing that live and in Prague, the audience gave them a standing ovation.

For the most part, the musicians that performed over in Europe for this concert played the North American tour except some of the violin players. Tina Guo is still there, hair whipping and rocking out like a badass. I love that Hans Zimmer mixes rock, classical and other genres for his music. It really provides an unique experience. Hans in-between speeches are similar to what I heard in NY and it’s understandable since he has stage fright supposedly. I’d have a hard time trying to say the same thing over and over each night. But he gave it with feeling and it sounded genuine so….You can tell how much respect he has for all the musicians on the stage, praising practically everyone at one point in the show.

My favorite pieces include music from Gladiator, The Lion King, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Dark Knight trilogy and of course Inception. Johnny Marr ended up showing up to play on the second part of the concert, which I wish he did when I saw the concert in NY. His son played but then he ended up coming out for Inception the next night in NY. The guitarist of Incubus played alongside Hans as well. The one thing that isn’t included on this Blu-Ray is Tina Guo and the musicians doing the Wonder Woman theme that started out in Batman V Superman. I don’t think they started playing that until Wonder Woman came out and became really popular.

As far as the actual Blu-Ray footage and how it looks; well it looks excellent. It’s beyond sharp, the camera angles and shots are top notch and gives you lots of different perspectives. Sadly, there’s no extras on the Blu-Ray or a digital HD code. I would have liked to have some extras on here, especially some behind the scenes stuff or a mini-documentary on all of them touring the world. Would have been interesting to see. There is something like that on youtube where it’s their rehearsals. Hans really did get some of the best musicians together and it’s such a rare concert tour. I really hope he does another one.

If you didn’t get a chance to see Hans Zimmer live, this is obviously the next best thing. I’ve been going to concerts regularly for over 25 years and this tour was simply one of my favorites. Having this on Blu-Ray and other formats is a nice bonus to own, and I’ll be playing this a lot from now on.
