David Cross is one of my favorite comedians. I usually agree with his opinions on religion and politics, plus he’s just a freakin’ funny guy! His latest stand-up act “Bigger and Blackerer” is what you expect from Cross; jokes about religion, the stupid tea baggers, health care, drugs, and even deaf people. Yes, he makes fun of the deaf.

“Bigger and Blackerer” was filmed over 2 nights in Boston, Mass. It’s his 3rd official album. His previous albums “It’s Not Funny” and “Shut Up You Fucking Baby!” are two of my favorite comedy albums of all-time. Sub Pop Records is releasing this on both CD and DVD. Each format has some different bits so if you’re a hardcore David Cross fan, you might want to pick up both. This stand-up special aired on the cable channel EPIX on April 10th, and fans had a chance to watch it online (legally). I figured I’d just watch it when I got the DVD or heard the CD. On the DVD, he covers such topics as I mentioned above (religion, politics, the deaf, drugs) plus he talks about horror porn, and wearing his “sleep mask” to the airport. That sleep mask is actually an S&M mask haha. I would have love to have seen that.

When I originally watched this stand-up, I didn’t like it as much as his previous acts. But after watching it again, I was cracking up. I don’t know what it is, but some stand-up acts I just find funnier and funnier every time I see or hear them. George Carlin’s stand-up acts are a good example of that, and the same goes with David Cross. I love the bits on Judaism, the ghost/horror porn stuff and when he batches the teabaggers. I particularly love it when he discusses politics and tells it like it is for religion. His material won’t be for everybody and I’m fine with that. But someone who doesn’t know David Cross might be in for a rude awakening if they are conservative or religious.

The extras on the DVD include extra stand-up bits, including a funny bit about a guy live blogging his act. The live blogging skit was spot on, I can’t stand when people tweet stuff as things are happening like movies, etc. Leave it to David Cross to make fun of all of that. Comedian Todd Glass makes a notable appearance, making fun of Cross’ “hipster” beard. I’m glad there was some extra bits included on the DVD.

“Bigger and Blackerer” is another solid album from comedian/actor David Cross. I’m not sure this album is as good as the others but it’s still funny nonetheless.
