Carter Burwell is the go-to-guy when it comes to Coen Brothers movies.
Burn After Reading is the latest film from the recent Oscar winners. The film is a black comedy starring John Malkovich, George Clooney, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand and Brad Pitt. Quite a lineup eh? The film is about an ex-CIA man who gets blackmailed by someone that works at a Hardbodies gym. Sounds like something the Coens would do.
Im a fan of Burwells other Coen Brothers score, Millers Crossing. This film score sounds dark, and very moody. It would help if I saw the movie so I could put the music and the imagery together. It doesnt sound like a black comedy though. The music has a lot of piano playing in the slower music, and intense orchestrated music for the faster paced cues. This score almost sounds like something Philip Glass would composed. I thought this Carter Burwell score by Burn After Reading was okay, but felt it doesnt really sound that great on its own.
Bottom Line: Not bad, but not that interesting
Notable Tracks: Night Running, Plan B
